INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CHURCH
Our church is a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts, also known as The Mother Church.
Christian Science services were first held in Petaluma in 1906, just 27 years after The First Church of Christ Scientist, was founded in Boston, Massachusetts. Early services were held in homes and rented quarters. In 1910 the society incorporated and, in accordance with the Manual of The Mother Church, became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Petaluma.
As the congregation grew, it was evident that a permanent church home would soon be needed. In 1917 a lot was purchased at 6th and B Streets and services were held in a renovated Victorian home on the property. In 1920 the house was removed and the present church, including the Sunday School was erected.. The church was dedicated on January 15, 1928, all indebtedness having been paid.
Erected first in the hearts of its member, this church continues its loving service within this community.
We are located at the corner of "B" and "6th" streets, a few blocks away from downtown Petaluma.
All are welcome at our Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services and to use the services of our Reading Room located at 21 6th Street, across the parking lot of the church.
Sunday Service
Our Sunday service is held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, and all are welcome. The service includes the reading of the Christian Science weekly Bible Lesson Sermon which is made up of citations from the King James Version of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science. The service also includes other scriptural selections, congregational singing, a vocal solo, silent prayer, and the audible praying of the Lord’s Prayer with its spiritual interpretation as found in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
Two Readers elected from our membership conduct the Sunday services. The Second Reader reads from the Bible, and the First Reader reads from the Christian Science textbook (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures) which interprets and explains the Bible passages.
As stated by the First Reader at every Sunday Service, the Bible and the Christian Science textbook are our only preachers. The Christian Science weekly Bible Lesson, found in the Christian Science Quarterly and studied throughout the week by students of Christian Science, constitutes our Sunday sermon. This lesson sermon is repeated in Churches of Christ, Scientist all over the globe. The weekly lesson sermons cover 26 topics repeated twice yearly. These lessons have subjects such as “Love,” “Life,” “Truth,” “Christ Jesus,” “God the Preserver of Man,” “God the Only Cause and Creator,” and more. The Christian Science Quarterly, published by the Christian Science Publishing Society, can be found at Christian Science Reading Rooms or online at www.tfccs.org. You may also order a Quarterly by calling 1-800-877-MY-LESSON.
Wednesday Evening Testimony MeetingOur Wednesday evening testimony meeting is held at 7:30 PM, and all are welcome. This service includes selected readings from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scripture. Following the readings is an opportunity for individuals in the congregation to share testimonies of Christian Science healing or remarks on Christian Science.
Sunday SchoolOur Sunday School meets at the same hour as the church service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, and all young people up to the age of 20 are invited to attend. Here students learn how to apply the truths of Christian Science to any challenge they may have in life. They learn about the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (the discoverer and founder of Christian Science) and they study the weekly Bible Lesson Sermon found in the Christian Science Quarterly. Students also study the Ten Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord's Prayer, and the life and teachings of Christ Jesus.
The Sunday School service begins with the singing of a hymn and the reading of the opening citations from the weekly Bible Lesson Sermon. Following this is a period of silent prayer and the audible praying of the Lord’s Prayer.
Students spend the rest of the hour in age appropriate classes taught by experienced Christian Scientist who offer a wealth of knowledge about the Bible and the teachings of Christian Science. Christian Science Sunday School arms children with spiritual tools that meet every human need.
Thanksgiving ServiceOur church also offers a Thanksgiving Service held annually on Thanksgiving Day from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, and all are welcome, including young children. A special Thanksgiving lesson sermon found in the Christian Science Quarterly is read which includes passages from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Following the readings is an opportunity for individuals in the congregation to express gratitude. This year it will be held outside at Walnut Park at the corner of "D" Street and Petaluma Blvd. If it rains we will hold it in the Church.
Child CareChild care for infants and small children is provided at all of our services by loving and experienced care givers.

Our church offers a Christian Science Reading Room, and the public is welcome.
